Cricket Initiations - Linkeroever & Park Spoor Noord
Stad Antwerp has asked ACC to organise a set of cricket initiatives specifically aimed at young cricketers. This is in response to the growing interest in cricket, especially amongst the young Asian community. They have noticed how many young lads are playing cricket in the parks and they would like us to do something for them. Therefore a set of training sessions have been organised following by a proper match on the following dates/locations:
Initiations/Training sessions
31st August (Wednesday 19.00 - 21.00)
7th September (Wednesday 19.00 - 21.00)
14th September (Wednesday 19:00 - 21.00)
Location: Basis School De Spits, Linkeroever
Game
18th September (Sunday 13.00 - 18:00)
Location: Parkspoor Noord
The minimum age limit is around 15 (although younger cricketers who can play a bit will be considered). Please circulate this information amongst as many people as possible and encourage young players to come along. We also need volunteers to help with the coaching on these evenings. This is an important event for the club so I hope you can find some time to come and help. Contact Dennis Newport if you can help.

Simon Newport named Belgian captain
Antwerp CC captain, Simon Newport has been named captain of the Belgian XI for the triangular tournament between Belgium, Spain and Gibraltar in La Manga this weekend. The club wishes him and the boys good luck against the Iberians!

Antwerp pipped at the last by Royal Brussels
Antwerp CC narrowly lost the season opener against Royal Brussels at Ohain today despite posting an imposing first innings total of 7/224. The hosts knocked off the runs with just 2.5 overs to spare. See the playcricket page for full scores and stats.

Simon Newport appointed club captain
The Committee has appointed Simon Newport as club captain for 2011. He replaces Ali Abbas who captained the side for 5 seasons, the longest period in the modern-day history of the club. The Committee wishes to thank Ali for his professionalism and skill as a leader and a cricketer and is confident Simon has the credentials to become a worthy successor.
